The collection reflects the development of European art in the 19th century in a variety of accentuations. One central point
of major importance is afforded to the German and Austrian drawings and watercolours of this timeframe.
And in accordance with the significance of the Biedermeier period for Austrian art, the Albertina houses particularly comprehensive
and high-quality holdings of works by, among others, Thomas Ender, Jakob and Rudolf Alt and
Peter Fendi.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, particular emphasis was placed on the expansion of the museums stock of French
and German art of the 19th century. Bearing witness to this is the collection of central works by Caspar David Friedrich,
Adolf Menzel, Edouard Manet, Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne and Paul Signac.
