The exhibitions focus is on seventy joint works by the two artists dating from 2008/9.
At first, Arnulf Rainer (born 1929) approached the sheets in a painterly fashion, with Günter Brus (born 1938) subsequently
introducing what can primarily be considered a literary discourse.
Joint products by these two artists were published as early as 1986, under the title Depth Obscured. This time as well, the
artists worked independently of each other, each devoting himself to the set of works by himself, without entering into a
simultaneous, immediate dialogue. The distinction between Bruss Picture-Poems and Rainers Overpaintings becomes
blurred. Groups related to each other thematically alternate with individual sheets that defy a prescribed order. What has
resulted from this collaboration is a sensitive interaction between the two artists variegated and differentiated languages
of form.
This exhibition is organized in cooperation with Galerie Heike Curtze, Vienna and Berlin.
