The presentation of
Contemporary III currently on view shows some 200 works from the Albertinas extensive and constantly growing collections of contemporary
art. This time the show focuses on the artistic juxtaposition of international approaches with Austrian art production, including
most recent positions.
Ever since the establishment of the Albertina in 1776, the interest in contemporary art production has lastingly been echoed
in its new acquisitions. In continuation of this interest of the very first hour, which was already pursued by the collections
founder, Albert of Saxony-Teschen, both the museums collection and exhibition policies have corroborated the Albertinas
affinity for contemporary artwork on paper to this very day. Hence the display of the museums own holdings of contemporary
art - a practice that offers insights into the most recent chapter of art history - is one of the core responsibilities of
the Albertina that is rooted in a long tradition.
