High School | Hermann Nitsch: Spaces of Color

For teenagers from 15 to 19 years

Hermann Nitsch is one of Austria’s most important artists. Upper secondary-level school students can get to know the output of this painter, who’s now over 80 years old, in this age-appropriate participatory tour. Herman Nitsch smears, pores, and otherwise distributes paint using his hands and feet on both materials and bodies. How do the concepts involved here correspond to the students’ own notions of art? We deal with the colors, formats, and painting techniques used by the artist and discuss our observations, opinions, and conclusions.

At the studio, we experiment with perception. We first create an abstract composition using a paintbrush, followed by one with finger paints. How does switching the painting medium alter the creative experience
