Primary School | Painting and Music. Pictures at an Exhibition
An interdisciplinary art education program with music
for children between 6 and 12 years of age
The world-famous musical work Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky (in the orchestral version by Maurice Ravel) inspires children on this tour through the exhibition. Since nearly all of the paintings that originally inspired Mussorgsky’s melodies and themes have since been lost, the participating children provided this music with new images right here at the ALBERTINA Museum. Things heard are combined with things seen, with auditory and visual impressions joining to form an overall experience.
At the studio, students paint to the music they hear, translating notes into colors and shapes. Their finished works thus become very personal pictures at their own exhibition.
This program was created together with the Wiener Symphoniker. Watch our video.
