250 Years of the ALBERTINA: Celebrating Together During the Anniversary Weekend
Free Entry at all three locations
4–5 July 2026
Open House
10 am – 6 pm
ALBERTINA, ALBERTINA MODERN and ALBERTINA KLOSTERNEUBURG
To mark its 250th anniversary, the ALBERTINA invites visitors to rediscover the diversity of all three locations on 4 and 5 July 2026. With a total of 250 free art educational activities, the museum is making a strong commitment to cultural participation and opening its collections and exhibitions to visitors of all ages.
An anniversary of this scale calls for a very special birthday cake: On Saturday, 4 July, at 10 a.m., Director General Ralph Gleis will cut a custom-made Sacher cake created especially for the ALBERTINA’s 250th anniversary on the Bastion terrace. The cake will then be distributed to visitors while supplies last.

Discover, Participate, Celebrate
As part of a diverse anniversary program, the ALBERTINA’s Education Department presents a “best of” selection from its extensive offerings. Through concise and engaging formats, visitors will gain insight into the museum’s wide range of educational activities—from creative experiences for young children to in-depth art discussions for adults.
A special highlight of the anniversary weekend is a dance performance by the inclusive ensemble Ich bin O.K., a long-standing partner of the Education Department. Developed specifically for the anniversary, the performance will take place in connection with the exhibition KAWS: Art & Comix on Saturday in the entrance hall of ALBERTINA MODERN (2.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m.).
In addition, ALBERTINA curators will offer personal insights into their exhibitions, speaking in front of original works about their scholarly research, current topics of investigation, and the development of exhibitions.
All 250 educational activities are free of charge and do not require advance registration.

With ASK ALBERTINA, the ALBERTINA introduces an AI-powered digital guide that visitors can test on site. Tailored to individual needs and interests, it provides information about 250 Years of the ALBERTINA at each visitor’s own pace—from families with children and people who require easy-to-understand language to art experts. As a participatory project, ASK ALBERTINA invites visitors to actively contribute to the optimisation of the chatbot, helping to shape the transition from this pilot version to the final release, which is scheduled to launch in late summer.
